Dear Sir,
The recent vandalism of the Mildura War Memorial in Henderson Park is an appalling act of disrespect that has rightfully drawn strong condemnation from community members.
War memorials are sacred places of reflection, honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Desecrating such a site—especially in the wake of Australia Day, an unrelated event—only underscores the ignorance of those responsible. Regardless of motive, there is no justification for such an act.
This memorial stands in tribute to those who fought and died for our nation. Defacing it is not only disrespectful but deeply hurtful to veterans, their families, and all Australians who cherish our history.
Such actions not only dishonour the memory of our fallen but also undermine the unity and respect that these memorials symbolise. We can only hope those responsible are caught and, perhaps, as part of their punishment, they should be required to undertake a history lesson.
Our community must stand together to protect and respect these sites.
