The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, was privileged to be invited to speak at this year’s National Police Remembrance Day Service at Mildura.
Addressing the attendees, Ms Benham reflected that the day is an important opportunity to acknowledge the courage, dedication and sacrifice of the men and women who serve and protect communities across Victoria and Australia.
The day also coincides with Victoria Police’s Blue Ribbon Day, when the broader community is encouraged to honour the memory of fallen officers and show support for the families they have left behind.
“National Police Remembrance Day is an important opportunity to reflect on those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep us safe,” Ms Benham said.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to every police officer who has given their life in service, and to the families, friends and colleagues they have left behind. Their loss is deeply felt and will never be forgotten.”
Ms Benham said it was also a time to acknowledge the ongoing commitment of serving police members who face challenges and risks every day in the line of duty.
“Our police officers go to work each day not knowing what they will face, but with the knowledge that they carry the responsibility of keeping our community safe. That is an extraordinary service, and it deserves our respect and recognition,” she said.
“Today, we honour those who have fallen, and we stand in solidarity with all members of Victoria Police. Their dedication, bravery and sacrifice underpin the safety of our communities.”
