The National’s Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, is thrilled her tireless advocacy for a Mildura mental health service has resulted in the announcement of much needed upgrades.
Mildura residents will finally have access to face-to-face mental health support when they need it with the announcement that the Mildura Mental Health and Wellbeing Local will be expanded from a telehealth only to a walk-in service effective today.
The news comes after Ms Benham pressured the Minister for Mental Health in Parliament recently, urging her to provide a timeline for the much-needed improvement to the service.
Ms Benham also recently met with Mental Health Victoria, where the lead organisation in the state highlighted the and advocated for the local service to be upgraded.
“I’ve been a passionate advocate for practical mental health services for years, and in fact my husband raised $50,000 for a walk-in clinic at Robinvale District Health Services in 2020,”
“For too long people in my electorate have been told to wait eight to 12 weeks for an appointment with a psychologist or a counsellor, and even then, it’s likely to have been a telehealth appointment.
“As of today, face to face help will be available right here in Mildura, which is nothing less than we deserve.”
The Mildura Mental Health and Wellbeing Local, based at 149 Deakin Avenue Mildura, is a free service and bookings, GP referrals and Medicare card are not required.
