The Nationals Member for Mildura Jade Benham says regional Victorians must be given their fair share in the upcoming budget.
Ms Benham says regional Victorians received 13 per cent of new infrastructure in last year’s state budget, despite accounting for 25 percent of Victoria’s population.
“I would call it regional discrimination,” Ms Benham says.
“The Labor government is spending $10 million dollars a day just to service its debt, and because of this they can’t do the things that matter _ more ED beds in Mildura hospital, police on the street, teachers in classrooms, more nurses in hospitals and to fix our roads.” Ms Benham says.
“For a Government that pushes the message of inclusivity, we urge it to stop discriminating against regional Victorians and give us our fair share in next week’s budget.
“Victorians are paying more and getting less. Victorians are not getting value for money with this Government, we are the highest taxed state in the nation with the highest amount of debt than any other state.
“We are seeing first-hand the impact of the Government’s inaction on the rising cost of living, housing crisis, and our dilapidated road network all while vital projects in our region are overlooked for funding.
“Our communities are tired of getting scraps from this Labor government. We don’t ask for much, and we shouldn’t have to beg for our fair share. This year’s State Budget must deliver for regional Victoria.”
