The Allan Labor Government continues to cut funding to regional roads, but I’m pleased to announce that after persistent advocacy, the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) is finally taking action on a key intersection in Mildura.
The Nationals Member for Mildura, Jade Benham says that, DTP regularly receives requests for road infrastructure improvements, but too often, these are shelved or delayed.
“The safety record of the intersection of Deakin Avenue and Sixteenth Street has made it impossible to ignore, and I’m relieved that a plan is now in motion to upgrade the site by early 2025.
“This intersection has been a concern for our community for far too long, with increasing traffic volumes, pedestrian activity, and a safety history that demands urgent attention.
“I’ve been fighting to ensure that the voices of our residents are heard, and that this vital upgrade doesn’t fall through the cracks,” said Ms Benham.
Possible funding pathways are currently being explored, including Commonwealth programs, to ensure that the necessary resources are secured.
“I’ll continue to monitor this process closely to guarantee that the work is done and that our community gets the infrastructure it needs and deserves.
“DTP will work with the Mildura Rural City Council to determine the best solution, and I’ll be keeping a close eye on developments to ensure that this project stays on track and on time.
“Our community’s safety is non-negotiable, and I won’t rest until this intersection is made safe for everyone,” said Ms Benham.
The Allan Labor Government can’t manage money, can’t manage our roads and it is time something is done about it.
