Dear Sir,
The recent antisemitic graffiti attack in Barclay Square, Red Cliffs is a vile act of hatred and is deserving of condemnation. Such disgusting behaviour is not only offensive but entirely un-Australian. Our nation prides itself on values of fairness, respect, and multiculturalism—there is no place for antisemitism here.
Public squares are spaces for the entire community—places of gathering, enjoyment and unity. To deface such a space with hateful rhetoric is not just an act of vandalism but a blatant attempt to spread division and fear. It is particularly shameful that this occurred at a time when the world is watching fragile peace talks in Gaza, hoping for an end to conflict and suffering. If anything, now is a time for dialogue and understanding, not acts that fuel hatred.
This attack is not just an insult to those targeted—it is an attack on the values we hold as Australians. Targeting one sector of our community because of their religion is unacceptable. We must stand together to reject this cowardly act, ensure those responsible are held accountable, and commit to stronger education against antisemitism and all forms of discrimination.
Now, more than ever, our community must choose respect over division and unity over hate.
