As we mark National Reconciliation Week, I wish to take a moment to honour this important time of reflection, learning, and commitment to unity across our nation.
Reconciliation Week reminds us of the urgent need to build respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians. The theme this year, “Bridging Now to Next” speaks to the enduring connection between our past, present, and future and calls on all Australians to walk forward together.
Here in our own community, we are fortunate to have local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and organisations leading the way. Their tireless efforts in education, culture, health, advocacy, and community development are central to the fabric of reconciliation.
Reconciliation demands more than acknowledgement. It requires listening, learning, and sustained commitment from all of us. As your local representative, I remain dedicated to supporting initiatives that advance truth-telling, close the gap, and foster genuine partnerships with First Nations communities.
I encourage all Australians to use this week as a time for reflection, growth, and unity as we take the next step together in bridging now to next.
