The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, has been appointed to Victoria’s Shadow Cabinet, taking on the portfolios of Shadow Minister for Water, Shadow Minister for Consumer Affairs, and Shadow Minister for Disability, Ageing, Carers and Volunteers.
The appointment recognises Ms Benham’s strong advocacy for the Mildura electorate and regional Victoria, ensuring country communities have a strong voice at the Shadow Cabinet table.
Leader of The Nationals, Danny O’Brien, said Ms Benham was well suited to the role.
“Jade has been a strong and passionate voice for the communities of the Mildura electorate since entering Parliament and her role as Shadow Minister for Water reflects how critical water is to her community,” Mr O’Brien said.
“With a farming background and deep roots along the Murray, she understands first-hand the challenges facing river communities, irrigators and regional Victoria.”
“It’s rewarding to see my hard work recognised, and I’m grateful for the trust placed in me,” Ms Benham said.
“These portfolios cover issues that matter deeply to regional communities, from the future of our water resources and the challenges facing consumers, to ensuring people with disability, older Victorians, carers and volunteers receive the support and recognition they deserve.
“I understand how important these issues are to families, businesses and communities across Victoria, particularly in the regions. My focus will be on ensuring regional voices are heard and delivering practical outcomes for the people we represent.”
Ms Benham said she looked forward to working with her Coalition colleagues as they continue to hold the Allan Labor Government to account and present a positive alternative for Victoria.
“The Nationals and Liberals are ready to deliver Victoria the fresh start it needs.”
