The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham recently participated in the Sunraysia Lifeline Project ride. The highly successful event raised over $16,000 for mental health services while uniting the community in a shared commitment to mental health and wellbeing.
Traveling from Bunnings Mildura to The Patchewollock Pub, the ride brought together 120 dedicated attendees whose support shone a spotlight on the essential role Lifeline provides within our community. Also in attendance was Lifeline Loddon Mallee Executive Officer Lisa Renato who highlighted the importance of continued community support and the positive impact such events have in raising awareness and funding for critical mental health services.
These efforts ensure that trained volunteers can continue offering not only telephone support services but also free workshops on critical community issues, all within a safe, non-judgmental space.
“I feel deeply connected to this cause,” Ms Benham said. “Mental health and suicide are problems have touched so many. Lifeline provides such an important service to our community and I didn’t hesitate to put my hand up to join in this fundraising event.”
The ride allowed participants to share personal stories, and gain insight into the struggles many face daily. It encouraged individuals to speak up about their experiences, offering both a voice for those battling mental health challenges and a chance for others to learn how to offer support.
“I am immensely grateful to all the supporters, sponsors, volunteers, and community members who attended the ride and helped make this day a success. Your enthusiasm and commitment have helped ensure that Lifeline can continue to serve our community.
“With every dollar staying local, the funds can be allocated where they are needed most. It costs $3,500 to train a volunteer in addition to the centre’s operating costs, so fundraising is absolutely vital to ensuring Lifeline’s ongoing viability,” Ms Benham said.
