The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham recently participated in the Sunraysia Lifeline Project ride. The highly successful event raised just under $25,000 for mental health services while uniting the community in a shared commitment to mental health and wellbeing.
Traveling from Bunnings Mildura to Robinvale, the ride brought together a record 192 attendees whose support shone a spotlight on the essential role Lifeline provides within our community.
These fundraising efforts enable Lifeline Loddon Mallee to train six additional volunteer crisis supporters and answer another 1,872 calls from people in crisis.
“I feel deeply connected to this cause,” Ms Benham said. “Mental health and suicide are problems that have touched so many. Lifeline provides such an important service to our community and I never hesitate to raise my hand to join in this fundraising event.”
The ride allowed participants to share personal stories and gain insight into the struggles many face daily. It encouraged individuals to speak up about their experiences, offering both a voice for those battling mental health challenges and a chance for others to learn how to offer support.
“I am immensely grateful to all the supporters, sponsors, volunteers, and community members who attended the ride and helped make this day a success. Your enthusiasm and commitment have helped ensure that Lifeline can continue to serve our community.
“With every dollar staying local, the funds can be allocated where they are needed most. It costs $3,500 to train a volunteer in addition to the centre’s operating costs, so fundraising is absolutely vital to ensuring Lifeline’s ongoing viability,” Ms Benham said.
