The Nationals Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, is encouraging local community groups, organisations and event organisers to apply for grants through the Pride Events and Festivals Fund, which supports events that celebrate LGBTIQA+ pride, visibility and inclusion.
Grants of up to $10,000 are available for smaller events and up to $25,000 for larger festivals. Eligible projects can include festivals, performances, exhibitions, digital media, recorded stories, community activities, artworks or installations that highlight local pride and showcase the voices, stories and contributions of LGBTIQA+ people.
“These grants are a great opportunity to bring people together, share stories and strengthen community connection,” Ms Benham said. “Whether it’s a festival, performance, exhibition or other creative project, this is an opportunity for local organisers to apply and put our region on the pride events map.”
Past events supported by the program have included open days featuring First Nations gender-diverse performers, book festivals highlighting trans authors, community expos focused on LGBTIQA+ ageing, and inclusive social events for people living with disability.
Ms Benham said regional communities often bring a unique perspective to statewide celebrations. “Our local pride events are not just about entertainment — they’re about fostering understanding, acceptance and a sense of belonging for everyone in our community.”
Ms Benham also encouraged groups to think creatively about their applications. “These grants support a wide range of ideas. If you’ve got a vision that celebrates diversity and inclusion, this is your chance to make it happen,” Ms Benham said.
Applications close Tuesday, 26 August. For more information, eligibility details and to apply, visit: vic.gov.au/successful-recipients-pride-events-and-festivals-fund.
