The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, has asked the Allan Labor Government for further details on the delivery of the new Charlton CFA station following the recent funding announcement.
In seeking answers, Ms Benham has asked Minister for Emergency Services, Vicki Ward, to confirm when construction of the new station is expected to begin and whether the project will be put out to tender, allowing local businesses and tradespeople the opportunity to be involved.
“Securing funding for this desperately needed station was a major win for the Charlton community and our CFA volunteers, and people are now keen to see the project progress,” Ms Benham said.
“This is a top priority project for the district, so naturally there is strong interest in the next steps and the delivery timeline.”
Ms Benham said the new station would support CFA volunteers with improved facilities better suited to modern firefighting and emergency response.
“When every minute counts, having appliances properly housed and volunteers equipped with appropriate facilities can make all the difference.
“This project will strengthen emergency response across Charlton and surrounding communities.”
Ms Benham said the project also presented an important opportunity to support the regional economy.
“The Allan Labor Government often talks about backing regional Victoria, and this project is a real opportunity to ensure local businesses and tradespeople can be involved. I would like to see them put their money where their mouth is.
“Local businesses employ local people, support local families and help keep regional communities strong, so I would certainly hope they are given the opportunity to contribute to this important project.”
