The Nationals Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, this week attended Beyond Bricks & Mortar Housing Summit 2023 focusing on building solutions together.
There is a shortage of all sorts of housing across most rural areas of Victoria. The aim for the Summit was to address these issues through a forum of information sharing, exploring local innovative ideas and strategies,
with a special focus on our growing and emerging workforce.
“Having first hand experience in the facilitation of the new build in Robinvale seeing 13 new dwellings for affordable housing being built by Haven Home Safe, it shows the private sector building more houses than the ‘Big Build’,’’ Ms Benham Said.
“The completion of these homes will mean that people currently waiting on placements from the Victorian Housing Register (VHR) will have a chance to access a long-term safe, secure, and affordable home in their local community,” said MS Benham.
“The Government’s mismanaged ‘Big Build’ is sucking up labour and materials required to build homes regional Victorians need.”
“This Labor Government talks big game when it comes to housing, but it has been in power for almost a decade and rental affordability has only become worse for locals.”
Vincent Wilson, CEO of Mallee Accommodation and Support Program (MASP), says “local organisations like MASP are well placed to deliver additional housing in the region and stand ready to partner with all levels of government to deliver the housing our community so sorely needs.”
