The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, says the Nationals and Liberals’ 10-year economic plan is a strong framework to restore Victoria’s finances and rebuild the state’s economic future.
The Victorian Liberals and Nationals have launched a comprehensive 10-year economic plan aimed at restoring the state’s finances, supporting economic growth and delivering a pathway back to surplus by 2032.
“Labor’s debt is now costing Victorian taxpayers around $1 million every hour in interest repayments alone,” Ms Benham said.
“That is money that should be going into frontline services, regional roads, health care and support for regional communities.”
Under the plan, the Liberals and Nationals will prioritise essential services and frontline workers, reduce tax pressures on households and businesses, abolish Labor’s Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund levy, and scrap Labor’s divisive Treaty, saving taxpayers $1 billion.
Key measures also include increasing the land tax threshold, lifting the payroll tax threshold for businesses, and delivering stronger accountability over major infrastructure spending.
Ms Benham said regional communities had carried a disproportionate share of cost-of-living and tax pressures.
“Families in regional communities are already struggling with the cost of living, higher power bills and increased taxes,” she said.
“Regional communities should not be paying the price for Labor’s financial mismanagement and waste.
“Victoria needs a fresh start with responsible economic management that will restore confidence, strengthen the economy, and protect the essential services Victorians expect and deserve.”
