The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, is continuing to work with Powercor and the Victorian Government following the recent major power outage.
Ms Benham has been in regular contact with Powercor throughout the outage and has received updates on the restoration effort, including the additional resources being brought in to assist with reconnecting homes.
“Residents who remain without power are understandably asking when they will be reconnected,” Ms Benham said.
“I have been advised the scale of this incident is unprecedented, with Powercor putting the call out Australia-wide for appropriately qualified professionals to assist with inspecting meter boxes and getting homes safely reconnected.
“There is support available for those without power, including the Mildura Relief Centre at the Alfred Deakin Centre, which has charging facilities, showers and access to information. The Mildura Sporting Precinct is also providing charging facilities and showers.
“Powercor has advised that compensation and support payments may also be available to people affected by the outage, and I encourage residents to look at the information available through the Powercor website.
“I have raised the impact of this outage directly with the Ministers for Energy and Emergency Services, and I am working with the Government to try to find suitable financial support for those who have been affected.
“I understand that people are tired, frustrated and want their power back. I will continue to keep in contact with Powercor and the Government as the restoration effort continues.”
