The Mallee’s Living Histories launched their fifth edition this week. Jade Benham, Member for Mildura was honoured to be able to open the book launch and provide a foreword for the latest addition to the series.
The Mallee’s Living History series started as an opportunity to give residents at Princes Court retirement village in Mildura the chance to tell their stories – a way of validating their life experience and sharing with others that, behind their apparent old age, they have lived lives of value to the wider community.
“Mallee Living Histories’ is not just a collection of stories and photographs; it is a testament to the enduring spirit of our people.
“As you explore these stories, you will gain insights into how Sunraysia and the Mallee is evolving, how it is harnessing the power of innovation and sustainability, and how it is ensuring that its rich heritage remains a source of inspiration for generations to come,” said Ms Benham.
“The very act of having someone listen to and share that experience is a potential source of good health and self-belief.”
Mallee Living Histories is a project which engages community volunteers and corporate sponsors who together collect the lived histories of those in our aged care in the Mildura region and publish stories which residents can share with family and friends.
The latest publication brings the storytelling to over seventy storytellers sharing their stories that otherwise may have been forgotten memories.
The new mallee living histories website, with the permission of the storytellers, is now available to the wider community. www.malleelivinghistories.com.au
