Families across the Mildura electorate will have their red bins collected every week under a National-Liberal Government, with the Coalition committing to guarantee weekly general rubbish collection across Victoria.
The commitment would reverse the shift to fortnightly red bin collections that has seen households across the Mildura electorate wait up to two weeks to have their general rubbish collected.
The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, said weekly rubbish collection was a basic household service that families should be able to rely on.
“For households with young children, nappies, pets or larger families, two weeks is a long time to manage general rubbish.
“People are paying more in rates and waste charges, yet they are being asked to accept less. Weekly rubbish collection is a simple, practical service that makes such a difference at the household level.
Fortnightly collections can also create flow-on problems beyond the household, with overflowing bins increasing the risk of rubbish being placed in recycling bins or ending up as litter and illegal dumping.
“Labor has tripled the landfill levy, putting significant pressure on council waste charges and household budgets. An incoming Liberal and Nationals Government will review the landfill levy and the container deposit scheme, while also applying the rate cap to council waste charges.
“Weekly rubbish collection is an essential service that shouldn’t depend on your postcode.
“While Labor keeps making household costs harder to manage, the Liberal and Nationals are focused on practical changes that make everyday life easier for families across the Mildura electorate.”
