Dear Sir,
In the wake of National Landcare Week, I want to acknowledge the many Landcare volunteers and facilitators in our region who dedicate their time and skills to restoring and enhancing our environment.
Landcare is an outstanding program that allows local communities to improve ecosystems and protect biodiversity. From tree planting and weed and pest control, to erosion prevention and habitat restoration, their work makes a remarkable difference on both public and private land.
It is important to note that for an investment of just $4.5 million, Landcare delivers an impressive $31.5 million economic return — a result that speaks for itself. Yet despite this success, the program is forced to continually lobby the State Government for long-term funding and certainty. This short-term approach is a missed opportunity to strengthen regional communities and the environment for generations to come.
The Nationals will continue to strongly back Landcare and the incredible people who make it possible. Their contribution is invaluable, and it deserves the recognition and long-term support it needs to thrive.
Warm regards,
