I was delighted to welcome local student, Blake Lee, to Parliament House recently.
Blake is participating in the Parliament of Victoria’s youth writing program, Parliament Express, and interviewed me on how communities can contribute to legislative change, particularly in relation to renewable energy projects. We also discussed how I bring the voices of constituents to Parliament, and the importance of ensuring that regional Victorians have their perspectives heard.
It’s wonderful to see young people like Blake taking such an interest in politics and wanting to make a difference in their community. Programs like Parliament Express give students the chance to see democracy in action and build the skills and confidence to be the leaders of tomorrow.
When young people engage with the political process, they help shape a stronger, fairer future for us all. With his enthusiasm, curiosity and thoughtful approach, I have no doubt Blake has a bright future ahead of him.
