The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, has slammed The Alan Labor Government for adding yet another new tax to our already struggling councils.
A new charge would make it more difficult to provide other services for the community, given the new charge would cost each council upward of $10,000 annually.
“It is a form of cost recovery that is totally unnecessary. Councils are delivering a service to protect community health, now they are being taxed by the Allan Labor Government for doing it.
“Given how high the immunisation rates are in our smaller LGA’s, this will be another barrier for families who are already struggling,” Ms Benham said.
“Labor can’t manage money and Victorians are paying the price.”
Ms Benham said, the new tax was further evidence Labor can’t manage our health system.
An inquiry into local councils is currently underway with regional councils already struggling to provide services without extreme rate rises to cover cost burdens.
“Instead of cutting corners and cost-shifting on to councils, the Allan Labor Government should be working with local governments to ensure immunisations are as accessible as possible.”
