Crime continues to escalate
Crime Statistics released today show an increase in recorded crime within the Mildura Local Government Area.
Data from the independent Crime Statistics Agency for the year ending 30 September 2024 has shown total recorded criminal incidents in the Mildura Local Government Area rising to record highs with 6317 recorded incidents, including:
- 439 residential burglaries
- 154 non-residential burglaries
- 312 motor vehicle thefts
- 562 thefts from a motor vehicle
- 329 thefts from retail stores
- 737 assaults
It comes as the Allan Labor Government continues its protracted war with Victoria’s Police, refusing to give them a fair and just pay deal.
The government has also cut 46 per cent from the community crime prevention budget and closing the crime prevention unit at the Department of Justice and Community Safety.
The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, said, “Our residents should rightly feel angry that instead of protecting them and doing more for their safety, the Allan Labor Government has ignored their pleas.
“These crimes are occurring because there are fewer police on the street. The Allan Labor Government is doing nothing to solve the frontline policing crisis and instead are at war with hardworking Victoria Police officers.
“Many in our local community are deeply concerned with rising crime and deteriorating community safety.
“Labor cannot manage money, cannot manage community safety and Victorians are paying the price.”
