The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, has congratulated Mallee Accommodation and Support Program (MASP) on the official opening of Doug’s Place, a major new supportive housing project in Mildura.
Doug’s Place consists of six accessible units in Mildura’s CBD to house and support rough sleepers, funded through the Regional Supportive Housing Program.
Ms Benham attended the opening of Doug’s Place, joining MASP staff, partners and community members to celebrate this achievement.

“MASP has long been one of the quiet pillars of care in our region,” Ms Benham said. “When young people and vulnerable people fall through the cracks, when families are in crisis, or when someone has nowhere safe to go, MASP is there, without judgement, and with compassion, stability and the wraparound support people need. Doug’s Place is the culmination of that mission.”
Ms Benham said the new facility provides far more than simply accommodation.
“Doug’s Place is a lifeline. It offers stability, dignity and the chance for MASP clients to rebuild their futures. Walking through the doors, you can feel the sense of hope the houses carry.”
Doug’s Place honours the legacy of Doug Tonge, who led MASP from its formation in 1994 until 2016.
“Doug has spent his life standing up for those who needed it most, and it’s incredibly fitting that this project bears his name,” Ms Benham said. “His commitment to care and community is woven through every part of this place.”
Ms Benham thanked MASP CEO Charmaine Calis, board chair Mary Rydberg, the entire MASP team, and all partners who contributed to the project’s success.
“MASP should be immensely proud of what they’ve achieved. Doug’s Place sets a new benchmark for supportive housing in our region and will change the lives of those who MASP supports.”
