Enjoy Australia Day and celebrate safely across the region
The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, is encouraging locals to celebrate Australia Day at community events across the region while enjoying the long weekend safely and responsibly.
“Australia Day is a time to come together as a community, reflect on our history, and celebrate the values that make us proud to be Australian; our resilience, mateship, fairness and strong sense of community, particularly here in regional Victoria,” Ms Benham said.
Ms Benham encouraged residents to attend local Australia Day events and ceremonies, many of which will include citizenship ceremonies, Australia Day awards and family-friendly celebrations.
“These local ceremonies are a wonderful opportunity to welcome new Australians, recognise those making a difference locally and celebrate the people who make our towns such great places to live.
“Whether it’s a community breakfast, a barbecue, an awards ceremony or simply catching up with friends, I encourage everyone to get involved and celebrate in a way that’s meaningful to them.”
With increased travel expected across the long weekend, Ms Benham urged motorists to take extra care on the roads.
“We know traffic volumes increase at this time of year, so please be patient, drive to the conditions and look out for one another.”
Ms Benham also reminded campers and visitors to respect the environment by following fire restrictions, camping regulations and taking rubbish home.
“Whether you’re heading to an event, enjoying the outdoors or spending time at home, I wish everyone across the Mildura electorate a happy, safe and enjoyable Australia Day,” Ms Benham said.
