The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham is encouraging young locals to apply for grants to create youth-focus events under Youth Fest 2025.
Grants of up to $2,000 are now open to schools, local councils and community organisations to team up with young people aged 12 to 25 to create events focused on young people.
The Youth Fest program focuses on events which promote sustainability, mental health, music, sport and much more, helping to connect young people with their communities.
Last year, events across the Mildura electorate included Mildura Rural City Council’s Youth Awards, which recognised the achievements of young people aged between 12 and 25 who showed leadership and overcame hardship, as well as youth workers and youth groups.
In Birchip, the Neighbourhood House hosted “Youth at The Centre”, where young people engaged in various activities and demonstrations. Students of Tyrrell College hosted “Sea Lake’s Social Games,” and Charlton Neighbourhood House featured “Community Lens: Youth Perspectives,” a competition inviting entrants across three age categories—primary, secondary, and 18-29 years—to capture their experiences, challenges, inspirations, and aspirations for the Charlton community.
“This is an exciting opportunity for young people to lead the way and make a difference in their community,” Ms Benham said. “I encourage all eligible organisations to apply and support initiatives that empower and engage our youth.”
Youth Fest 2025 applications are open until 14 March. To apply and to find out more, visit youthfest.vic.gov.au
