Nationals Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, is disgusted with the lack of haste by the Government to deliver safe, secure and affordable housing.
“Despite claims of record investments, public housing stock remains stagnant as more and more vulnerable Victorians are added to the waiting list each week.
“Vulnerable Victorians deserve better than a tired government that only delivers longer waiting lists, longer waiting times and no significant increase in number of suitable new homes,” said Ms Benham.
Ms Benham said at a time when almost 68,000 Victorians are stuck on Victora’s social housing waitlist the Government must deliver on its commitment.
The shortages in public housing are having a significant impact when accompanied with the current cost of living crisis. Mildura is in the top 10 regions with growing homelessness.
Residents are already struggling with out-of-control rental increases brought on by new or increased government taxes on landlords, property price increases due to low supply, soaring utility bills, and an ever-growing cost of living for all Victorians.
Stable housing is essential to helping those in need get back on their feet, but under the Andrews Labor Government things are getting worse, not better.
