Nationals Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, can confirm investigations have begun on the intersection of Sixteenth Street and Deakin Avenue.
Jade Benham emphasised the severity of the situation, citing two fatalities and numerous serious injuries that have occurred at the intersection since 2009 in a meeting with the Minister.
The situation has become increasingly perilous, especially with the surge in traffic due to the growth of Mildura South and the bustling Mildura sporting precinct.
“The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) has advised me that it is investigating solutions at this location, including signalisation, to be considered in future programs,” said Ms Benham.
Recognising the importance of collaboration, DTP officers will engage with relevant stakeholders such as Victoria Police during this investigation process.
Additionally, the DTP reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Mildura Rural City Council to develop viable solutions and explore funding options.
“I am pleased to see the Department of Transport and Planning taking proactive steps to address traffic safety concerns in our community,” said Jade Benham MP.
“Safety on our roads is paramount, and I will continue to advocate for measures that prioritize the well-being of our residents whilst creating reputable relationships with the appropriate Ministers and Departments.”
