Member for Mildura, Jade Benham as part of the Victorian Parliament’s Integrity and Oversight Committee, will begin hearings as part of its Inquiry into the Operation of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic).
“The Committee has already received valuable submissions, and the upcoming public hearings give organisations and individuals a further useful way to contribute to the Committee’s inquiry into FOI,” said Jade Benham.
The Committee will examine a range of issues, including: the effectiveness of the Freedom of Information Act’s current policy model in comparison with other options; mechanisms for proactive and informal release of information; efficient and timely mechanisms for persons to access their own personal and health information; the time and costs involved in providing access to information; and a variety of other matters.
The full hearing schedule and witness information is available on the Committee’s website, where transcripts from the hearings will also be placed in due course.
The public hearings will be live broadcast on the Victorian Parliament’s website and also rebroadcast from 7:00 pm on 26 February.
Further information on the Committee and the inquiry’s terms of reference is available on its website.
