The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, is encouraging eligible local organisations to apply for funding through the Victorian Government’s Community Food Security Program ā Local Grants.
The program supports food relief and food security initiatives that help Victorians access healthy and culturally appropriate food. It aims to meet growing demand for food relief, strengthen local food security programs and address the drivers of food insecurity.
“Cost of living pressures are hitting Victorians hard right now. Families are having to choose between switching on the heater or putting food on the table ā a choice no one should have to make,” Ms Benham said.
“More and more people are seeking food relief, and the organisations providing that support are under increasing pressure to keep up with demand. This funding will help strengthen the services they provide and ensure vulnerable members of our community can continue to access the support they need.”
“Community groups are the best placed to understand local needs, and this funding can help them continue delivering practical support where it is needed most.”
Eligible organisations include neighbourhood houses, multicultural and faith-based organisations, community and volunteer-led groups, social enterprises, local government entities and public health services.
A dedicated Local Grants stream for First Peoples organisations will also be available this year and delivered in partnership with the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO).
“I encourage eligible organisations to explore this opportunity and consider applying for funding to support the valuable work they do,” Ms Benham said.
