The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham is encouraging local students to enter the annual 2023 Parliament Prize competition.
“Entries are now open for students in Years 5 – 12 for this year’s Parliamentary Prize. This year, students are being asked what they would say to Parliament if they were an MP,” said Ms Benham.
“To enter, students need to record a video of themselves delivering a Member’s Statement that they would make to Parliament.
“A Member’s Statement is an opportunity for electe
d members to make a brief statement of up to 90-seconds in State Parliament on matters of interest or concern to them and those living in their electorate,” explained Ms Benham.
“Students entering the competition can record themselves or can use an animated avatar if they prefer.
“I recently attended St Paul’s Primary School 5/6 students whilst they were studying Civics and Citizenship. It was very interesting to hear their thoughts and views on matters that are important to them.”
The Parliamentary Prize competition is open to all Victorian primary and secondary school students, with age categories of years 5-6, years 7-9 and years 10-12.
Students have the chance to win $500 for themselves, and $1,000 for their school.
