Dear Editor,
Service above self. That’s what comes to mind when I think of Rotary. Having been a charter member of a newly formed club many moons ago, I feel a strong connection to Rotary and its mission.
It was wonderful to attend the 2024 Robinvale-Euston Rotary Transition Dinner. An even bigger thrill was being greeted by the Robinvale College and Community Brass Band, and seeing their founder, co-ordinator, teacher, bus driver, and conductor, Siua Taumoefolau, awarded a Paul Harris Fellow. This is the highest achievement award a Rotary club can bestow on one of its members.
My Dad is a Paul Harris Fellow, so I’m well aware of the prestige this award carries. Siua’s recognition is so well deserved. He is a truly exceptional individual who embodies service above self.
Siua’s dedication to the community is truly inspiring. He is not only the driving force behind the Brass Band but also plays the bugle at our ANZAC and Remembrance Day ceremonies, bringing solemn and respectful tribute to our fallen heroes. His efforts have significantly enriched our community, instilling pride and unity through music and service.
I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Annette Kennedy on her continued presidency of the Robinvale-Euston Rotary Club. Annette has shown remarkable leadership and dedication to the club’s mission and values. Her tireless efforts have driven numerous successful community projects, and her vision continues to guide the club towards making a positive impact in our community. Annette’s commitment ensures that the spirit of Rotary remains strong and vibrant in Robinvale and Euston.
I also want to acknowledge all Rotarians for the amazing job they do. Their hard work in community service, volunteering, assisting at community events, as well as their generous donations to schools and other local organisations, makes a significant difference to our region. And let’s not forget the donuts. It wouldn’t be an event in Robinvale without the Rotary donuts. The dedication and effort of every Rotarian help build a stronger, more connected community & their unwavering commitment to service above self is truly commendable.
Sincerely,
Jade Benham MP
