The Victorian Liberals and Nationals have released a discussion paper on tax reform that aims to develop ideas to reduce cost pressures for singles, families, community groups and business.
Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, said Victoria’s tax system discourages rather than incentivises investment and job creation in our state and needs to be reformed.
“Victoria’s tax system is punitive, adding to the costs of businesses and families actively trying to get ahead,” Ms Benham said.
Launched by Leader of the Opposition, John Pesutto, Shadow Treasurer, Brad Rowswell, and Shadow Minister for Finance, Jess Wilson, the ‘Making Victoria’s Tax System Work’ paper seeks input from Victorians on how to make our tax system stronger and more responsive to the needs of Victorians.
The Andrews Government has introduced or increased nearly 50 taxes since coming to office in 2014. The latest State Budget included new and additional taxes on renters, independent schools, tourism, and jobs.
“It undermines choice and creativity and is in urgent need of reform, with Victorians paying more state taxes than anywhere else in the nation.”
“Any local organisation or charity group wishing to attend a round table discussion should contact my office at 35a Deakin Avenue, Mildura or by calling 03 5021 2828.”
The discussion paper along with additional information, including fact sheets, is available at https://www.bettertaxsystem.com.au/
Submissions to the discussion paper close at 5.00pm on Tuesday, 31 October 2023.
