The Nationals’ Member for Mildura, Jade Benham, has thrown her support behind ‘The Nappy Collective’, a community based not-for-profit organisation that is ensuring all Australian children have nappies that allow them to remain clean, healthy, and happy.
Currently, one in 10 families, or 280,000 children, don’t have enough nappies – a situation known as “nappy stress”.
Nappy stress can impact families facing financial hardship, experiencing or at risk of homelessness, escaping domestic violence, seeking asylum, or those impacted by natural disasters.
“I have registered my office at 35a Deakin Avenue, Mildura, as a collection point where donations of new and leftover nappies can be passed onto community partners that support local families,” Ms Benham said.
“This campaign couldn’t come at a more important time with demand for support through The Nappy Collective essentially doubling over the past 12 months, driven by the cost-of-living crisis many households are facing.
“If you can, please donate. If you need support and assistance with accessing nappies, these will be available in my office in the coming weeks.”
The Nappy Collective has distributed over 6.8 million nappies to families in need since 2013, including over a million last year, providing integral support to families and children across the country.
Ms Benham’s office will be one of 653 collection points across Australia.
