Member for Mildura Jade Benham MP and Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Stuart King will next month travel to Villers-Bretonneux to mark the significant 40th Anniversary of the sister City Relationship with Robinvale
Highlighting the profound significance of the longstanding relationship between Robinvale and its twin town, Villers-Bretonneux, Ms. Benham reiterated the importance of this association earlier this year. 2024 signifies the 40th anniversary of this twinning, marking a proud milestone in the history of both towns.
Ms. Benham has been designated by the Robinvale Villers-Bretonneux Association as the elected parliamentary representative to partake in the celebrations in Villers-Bretonneux.
“I am honoured to stand alongside Mayor Stuart King and other chosen representatives during the week-long festivities,” said Ms. Benham.
“I welcome any families who may have loved ones laid to rest in Villers-Bretonneux to contact my office as I would be honoured to visit their resting place on their behalf and pay my respects,” said Ms. Benham.
“I’d like to thank President Ian Boyd for extending the invitation of my attendance to represent the Robinvale community at this momentous milestone for the towns.”
Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Stuart King also expressed his thoughts on the upcoming visit:
“Villers-Bretonneux holds a special place in the hearts of many in our community, given its historical ties and the sacrifices made by Australian soldiers during World War I,” said Mayor Stuart King.
“Our visit presents a meaningful opportunity to honor memories and celebrate the enduring friendship between our cities.”
“An invitation is extended to any community members with connections to Villers-Bretonneux who may have specific requests or messages they would like conveyed during the visit. Whether it be delivering a message letter to a relative’s grave, capturing a photograph of a cherished landmark, or any other meaningful gestures.
“We are committed to representing the wishes of our community to the best of our ability,” Mayor King emphasised.
Please reach out to either of our offices to discuss your requests or suggestions.
“Together, we can ensure that this sister city visit is not only memorable but also reflective of the deep-rooted connections between our communities,” concluded Mayor Stuart King.
